Personalized LearningCharlotte-Mecklenburg School’s is dedicated to providing a Personalized Learning (PL) Environment for every child, everyday for a better tomorrow. Our PL Initiative is based on our CMS’s Strategic Plan 2018. Our first co-hort of 15 PL school design teams created our Personalized Learning definition and foundation (created by teachers for teachers). Personalized Learning in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools aims to develop the whole child and empower them to take ownership of their learning by providing them with multiple pathways to demonstrate mastery learning in order to be successful and productive 21st century citizens in an ever-changing world. We have four corner-stones that equals our foundation in implementing a Personalized Learning Classroom: Whole Child, Student Ownership, Mastery Learning and Paces, Playlists and Pathways. Here are some of our ‘Look Fors’ in a classroom. Are you outside of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS)? Do you want to see Personalized Learning in Action? Then come visit our school PL tours! CanvasIs a Learning Management System that CMS is adopting for the 2015-16 school year. Canvas, the district's new centralized computer learning-management system. It's an online tool integrated with many different digital applications. CMS is one of several school districts using Canvas, which was adopted by the state of North Carolina."The best way to explain Canvas is to think of it as a binder with tabs. You add the information you want to each tab," said Pillsbury. "We want to guide teachers to where they need to be in the math techbook based on what standard they are teaching."
Canvas is most well known for its ease of use and painless adoption. Maybe that’s because we believe it doesn’t matter how many cutting edge features you have (which we have, by the way). If the LMS doesn’t get used, it’s just software gathering proverbial dust and doing no good.
